Will AI Destroy the Meaning of Truth? When Seeing Is No Longer Believing For thousands of years, human beings have trusted their eyes. If we saw something happen, we believed it happened. If someone showed us a photograph, it was considered evidence. If a camera recorded an event, the recording could become proof. A person's voice, captured on tape, could establish that they had said something. In courts, newsrooms and ordinary conversations, visual and audio evidence became powerful because people assumed that reality could be captured. Artificial intelligence is beginning to challenge that assumption. Today, a photograph can be created without a camera. A person's voice can be reproduced without that person speaking. A realistic video can show someone doing something they never did. A face can be placed into a scene where the person never existed. The technology is fascinating.
